They call themselves "tin pan indie," and local rockers Glenn Labs' leading man, Brian Davis, certainly shares original Tin Pan Alley cat Irving Berlin's devotion to swank lyricism and the inexplicable power of songcraft. This show celebrates the release of the Labs' first album, Best Laid Plans, recorded in SF at Closer Studios and Tiny Telephone, with engineering by Tim Mooney (American Music Club, Chuck Prophet). Glenn Labs already knew how to rock the house, but the recording process — and the addition of strings, horns, and who knows what else — has helped clarify the quartet's Elvis Costello-esque romps and revelations. The title track on Best Laid Plans was meant to work on a personal level, but it resonates particularly with the current state of our Sunshine State.
